I often hear the line 'I just don't know what to knit!' It sounds like a lament, a cry for help, 'I need something, but I don't know what!'
Are you one of those people who, in summer, just can't decide what to knit. You know you want to knit & you really miss it! but summer tops are not for you, and your lovely winter knits are just too warm and woolly to be buried under at this time of year.
Well all is not lost.
Socks. Lovely, lovely socks. I always have at least one pair on the needles. (In fact I have several pairs on the go at the moment on several pairs of needles, whoops).
They are great to take when you are travelling as they are so small and light.
Sock patterns are everywhere. They are on Pintrest, Ravelry, Google will find you lots of links. Magazines carry them, I particularly like the ones in 'The Knitter'.
West Yorkshire Spinners' Signature 4ply is one of my favourite sock yarns at the moment. The 'Country Birds' range make you look like a professional even when you use the most basic of patterns. Great for when you are at a Knit & Natter as you almost can't go wrong. The colour range also works just as well for men as women, so there is no excuse not to knit for the man you life. If you are quick you could still rustle some up for Father's Day.
I also like making them with complimentary ribs, heels and toes. I particularly like knitting patterns in my socks, and this does require a plain yarn, but I always have some left at the end, and it feels great to use up the ends on another pair. These are some of the fab colour combinations available at the moment:
Butterscotch, Blue Tit & Poppy Seed:
Cayenne Pepper, Bullfinch & Poppy Seed:
Poppy Seed, Pheasant & Nutmeg:
Poppy Seed, Wood Pigeon & Pennyroyal:
Poppy Seed, Owl & Cream:
I am knitting a pair in Butterscotch at the moment. It is a beautiful and challenging pattern from 'The Knitter Mini Collection' by Rachel Coopey, called 'Shelby'. I can highly recommend it if you like a bit of a challenge! I do!
With what is left I am going to team it with Blue Tit, and make another pair.
And here are a pair I am designing myself!
Now dare I say 'Christmas'!!!!, yes I dare. You could be making your presents.
The bliss of still being able to knit, & get ahead for later in the year. A perfect scenario if I do say so myself.
