Tonight is our monthly evening Knit & Natter session (it also includes crochet for any of you who want to join in). It is normally the last Monday of every month but was moved due to the Bank Holiday and too many of us with other fun things to do that day.
At last month's session I had just borrowed a book from our local library and was wrestling with which wool in my stock room might make a good substitute for the one used in the book.
This was what I wanted to use. It is Bergere De France Cabourg yarn, 70% acrylic 30% Hemp, an unusual blend but yummy to use, and as usual which colour was the big debate:
I was told categorically by one of our regulars that I did not need to start another 'Lime Green' item, I already have 2 on the go. I wanted to disagree, as I can never have too much Lime Green, but with so many other lovely colours available I did have to see her point.
So finally I decided to go with the orange. It was in the 'to start' queue for about 2 days before my need to get going got the better of me.
I am making all sorts of adjustments to the pattern as I work, because instead of just following the pattern I wanted it longer, and I also wanted to knit it in the round! It is currently a large tube and I am going to knit the sleeves as tubes using dpn's as I would with socks.
I love this type of a challenge, and it really does make me feel excited to pick up my knitting.
I will be showing the ladies this evening. Some will laugh, some will role their eyes at my making far more complicated than the original pattern, but I know they will all share my pleasure at taking the craft I love and making it mine.
Thanks for reading.
Jo
